Gedenktafel an der Stelle des Geburtshauses C.D.Friedrichs

Caspar David Friedrich Commemorative Plaque

A commemorative plaque is attached to the wall of the house in Lange Straße 57, where the great Romantic artist Caspar David Friedrich was born, and which today houses the Caspar David Friedrich Centre.

The plaque bears the following text:

On this site was situated/
the birthplace of the painter/
Caspar David Friedrich /
born 5 September 1774, died 7 May 1840.

As the original house had burnt down in 1901, the plaque commemorating Caspar David Friedrich’s 150th birthday in 1924 was attached to the house built in its place.
